Rubella
Rubella, or German Measles, is a viral illness that causes a characteristic spotty rash and fever.

It is a relatively mild illness, but can have devastating consequences on the unborn child if acquired while pregnant. 90% of babies infected during the first 14 weeks after conception will have a major congenital abnormality, such as deafness, blindness, brain damage or heart defects.

If you are unsure about vaccinating your child against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), you can now access a decision aid tool with information about each disease, the risks and benefits of vaccination, as well as instructions on how to compare the risks. It has been created by the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) in Sydney.
